CHATTOGRAM, Bangladesh, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The harvest season of Jhum, or shifting cultivation, is in full swing in Bangladesh's southeastern Chattogram Hill Tracts region, where small ethnic groups are harvesting their crops such as upland rice, vegetables, or fruits.

People living in the hills of Bangladesh still widely practice shifting cultivation as a dominant hill farming system to support their livelihood. In Jhum cultivation, multiple crops are sown in holes in April and they are harvested in succession when they are ripe between September to October.
