BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
BIO-BASED DEGRADABLE SHOES
Chinese researchers have recently developed and produced bio-based degradable shoes which are stable for everyday use and can degrade quickly under composting conditions, according to China Science Daily.
The research team from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology first developed a bio-based polyester rubber and used it as the material for the sole of shoes, with other parts made from hemp fiber, bamboo fiber and corn stalk latex.
SCI-TECH ACTION PLAN
China has published an action plan from 2022 to 2030 on supporting the country's carbon reduction goal by science and technology measures.
The action plan, compiled by nine central departments including the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission, proposed the sci-tech innovation actions and safeguard measures to support the goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and make research preparations for realizing carbon neutrality by 2060.
The plan features specific actions to promote technological breakthroughs and innovation in green and low-carbon energy transformation, low and zero carbon industrial process reengineering, low-carbon construction and transport, negative carbon and non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emission reduction, global cooperation, among others.
PLATEAU SCIENTIFIC SURVEY
A plateau lake, located in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, was recently found to have witnessed a rise in water levels between 2016 and 2022, with its elevation increasing by about one meter.
The discovery was made by a research team from the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) during the country's ongoing second scientific research survey on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Started in 2017, the scientific research survey was led by the institute and included more than 7,000 researchers from over 270 institutions across the country. Enditem
