BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines over the past week:

1. China revises sports law

Chinese lawmakers passed a revision to the country's sports law on June 24, in a bid to facilitate efforts to build the country into a sporting powerhouse.

The revised Law on Physical Culture and Sports was passed at a session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and will take effect on Jan. 1, 2023.


2. China bags five gold medals at the 19th FINA World Championships

China saw a gold rush at the ongoing 19th FINA World Championships held in Budapest, Hungary in the past week, claiming four golds in artistic swimming events plus a gold from swimming.

Twin sisters Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi clinched two golds in the women's duet technical and duet free events. The 25-year-olds also joined their teammates to win team free and team technical events.

Yang Junxuan won another gold for China with victory in the women's 200m freestyle.


3. Chengdu World University Games rescheduled for summer in 2023

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) announced on June 24 that the Chengdu 2021 World University Games will take place from July 28 to August 8 in 2023.

The 31st edition of FISU Summer Universiade had initially been scheduled for the summer of 2021 but were pushed off to June 2022 following the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. On May 5, FISU announced that the Chengdu 2021 Games would be pushed back until 2023.


4. Chinese Olympic Committee's Olympic Day campaign boosts sports enthusiasm

The Chinese Olympic Committee launched a campaign themed "Together for a Better World" to mark its 36th Olympic Day on June 23.

Since 1987, the Chinese Olympic Committee has been actively participating in the IOC's Olympic Day celebration by carrying out various forms of activities for 36 consecutive years.


5. China's doubles legend Zhao Yunlei inducted into badminton Hall of Fame

China's two-time Olympic champion Zhao Yunlei was inducted into the 2022 Badminton World Federation Hall of Fame on June 21.

Zhao has won multiple tournaments, most notably in mixed doubles with Zhang Nan and women's doubles with Tian Qing. She was the only player to win a double at the same Olympics (London 2012) and two consecutive World Championships (Copenhagen 2014, Jarkada 2015).

Zhao has decided to turn her attention to youth sports in future.


6. China ends Asian Gymnastics Championships campaign with eight golds

The Asian Gymnastics Championships came to an end on June 19 as China captured two more gold medals on the last matchday.

China won eight of all 14 gold medals of the Asian Gymnastics Championships, including men's and women's team and all-around titles.
