More than 112 million doses of CoronaVac vaccine have been administered in Brazil since the beginning of the vaccination campaign in 2021.

SAO PAULO, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian state laboratory Butantan Institute on Friday inaugurated a factory here for the production of the China-developed CoronaVac vaccine starting from 2023.

"This factory is a victory for Sao Paulo and Brazil. It is a factory of life," Sao Paulo Governor Joao Doria said at the inauguration ceremony, adding that the imported CoronaVac vaccine is the most widely used one among Brazilian children and adolescents.

The production center, which will also manufacture vaccines against rabies, Zika and hepatitis A, has a capacity to produce 100 million doses of vaccines per year.

According to Doria, more than 112 million doses of CoronaVac vaccine have been administered in Brazil since the beginning of the vaccination campaign in 2021.

Dimas Covas, president of the Butantan Institute, said that the Sinovac technology transfer phase began in 2021 and a mission from the Chinese laboratory will visit the site in April.
