Attempts at projecting China as the "new colonizer" are just futile attempts at "whitewashing history of Western exploitation, racism and plunder, and trying to worm their way back into Zimbabwe to enjoy her natural resources," reported The Herald, Zimbabwe's largest daily newspaper.
HARARE, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Western media outlets and local "independent" media in Zimbabwe are reported to have been running stories about the alleged growing influence of Chinese companies in the African country.
The rising influence has been claimed to be especially in the natural resource sectors, such as mining and the environment, said an article released by The Herald, Zimbabwe's largest daily newspaper.
The report also said that the script is familiar, in which Chinese companies are portrayed as "having come in a wave and are overrunning the countryside where they extract riches under the soil such as gold and granite, leaving communities mourning, scarred and poor."
Western countries, sponsoring propaganda against China in local media and corrupting poor journalists, intend to let the world forget about their role in exploiting Zimbabwe, the article added.
"It is called whitewashing history," it noted.
