NAIROBI, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The National Olympic Committee of Kenya has extended its wishes for a successful Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
In a letter to the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, Paul Tergat, president of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, expressed confidence in China's ability to host the Games despite pandemic-related disruptions to global sporting events.
"We have every reason to believe that the Beijing Winter Olympics will once again become a splendid global event that promotes the cultural diversity of the world," Tergat said.
He noted that since 2008 when China hosted the Summer Olympics, the Asian nation has accumulated valuable experience in showcasing the Olympic ideals and spirit to the wider world.
At a time when COVID-19 remained a threat to global public health security, the Beijing Winter Olympics presents an opportunity to heal and unite the world, said Tergat.
He hailed the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee for overcoming hurdles presented by the pandemic to plan for the sporting event in a timely and meticulous manner.
Tergat said that the Olympic spirit that transcends geographical boundaries, color and creed will be rekindled in Beijing.
