Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen held phone talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, discussing cooperation under the ASEAN framework and Myanmar's political situation.

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen held phone talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Tuesday, discussing cooperation under the ASEAN framework and Myanmar's political situation, Cambodia's foreign ministry said.

During the call, Widodo warmly congratulated Cambodia for assuming the role as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chair for 2022, the ministry said in a statement, adding that he reiterated Indonesia's full support for Cambodia's successful chairmanship, which he believed would contribute to Indonesia's successful chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023.

In response, Hun Sen expressed his high appreciation to the Indonesian president for supporting Cambodia's ASEAN chairmanship this year, it said.

The Cambodian leader also praised Indonesia for its many initiatives contributing to the ASEAN community building process.

"The two leaders also exchanged views on the current developments in Myanmar and underscored the importance to forge ASEAN's efforts to assist Myanmar in finding suitable solutions to achieve national reconciliation, durable peace, stability and development," the statement said.

Established in 1967, ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
