Iran ready to respond to U.S. threat: chief negotiator

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Sunday warned the U.S. to "be careful with their statement" in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to strike Iran again over their support for Hezbollah.

Ghalibaf, who leads the Iranian negotiating team for Sunday's talks with the U.S. in central Switzerland's Buergenstock resort, wrote on X that if the U.S. threat had any effect, they wouldn't have reached the point of despair today.

"They had better be careful with their statements. Our armed forces are ready to respond in another way," said Ghalibaf.

Lebanese media reports Israeli ceasefire violation in southern Lebanon

Israeli drones dropped sound bombs in the city of Nabatieh and an Israeli tank opened fire toward the outskirts of the village of Hadatha in southern Lebanon on Sunday, marking the first reported violation of a ceasefire announced a day earlier, according to Lebanon's National News Agency.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Civil Defense teams recovered six bodies from the rubble and transported eight wounded people to hospitals in Nabatieh on Sunday during search and rescue operations.

In remarks published by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said Lebanon's priorities remain securing a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, deploying the Lebanese army, facilitating the return of displaced residents, securing the release of detainees, and launching reconstruction efforts with Arab and international support.

Ethiopia's ruling Prosperity Party set to form new government

The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) on Sunday declared the ruling Prosperity Party the winner of the country's seventh general election, clearing the way for it to form a new government.

Announcing the official results in Addis Ababa, the NEBE said the Prosperity Party secured 438 of the 486 contested seats in the House of Peoples' Representatives (HoPR), the lower chamber of Ethiopia's parliament, in the June 1 general election.

Abelardo De la Espriella wins Colombia's presidential runoff: preliminary results

Independent candidate Abelardo De la Espriella, associated with the far-right Defenders of the Homeland movement, led the presidential runoff election on Sunday and is set to become Colombia's next president for the 2026-2030 term, according to preliminary results released by the National Civil Registry.

With 98.22 percent of the ballots counted at the time of press, De la Espriella secured 49.77 percent of the votes, while his rival Ivan Cepeda garnered 48.59 percent.

The second round of voting took place from 8 a.m. local time (1300 GMT) to 4 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Sunday, with more than 41.4 million registered voters eligible to cast ballots at approximately 13,000 polling stations nationwide.
