DHAKA, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh on Saturday launched a countrywide campaign to distribute Vitamin A-plus capsules to around 22 million children between six months and five years old.
A total of 240,000 volunteers and 40,000 health workers have been deployed to 120,000 permanent and makeshift centers across the country for the campaign.
Parents were seen taking their kids to the centers in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country since Saturday morning to get Vitamin A-plus capsules.
Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam said earlier that such a campaign contributed to the government's efforts in reducing night blindness and the risk of child deaths from diseases such as measles and diarrhoea.
Bangladesh conducts the campaign twice a year. ■
