MANILA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The 13 Filipino crew members of a ship damaged by missile attacks in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen on Tuesday are safe, the Philippine government said Wednesday.
The Philippines' Department of Migrant Workers said the shipping company's local manning agency informed them that the vessel is continuing its voyage to its next port of call.
Last month, the Philippines banned the deployment of Filipino seafarers on passenger and cruise ships transiting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden due to the risk of sailing in those regions.
The Philippines is among the biggest suppliers of maritime labor in the world, providing almost one-fifth of the 1.2 million seafarers worldwide, according to the International Labor Organization. ■
