DAMASCUS, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two explosions on Monday heard in the capital Damascus were caused by an Israeli strike in the daytime, state news agency SANA reported.

The Israeli forces carried out a missile strike from Israeli airspace, targeting military sites around Damascus, a Syrian military source said.

The Syrian air defenses intercepted some of the missiles, the report said, adding that the attack wounded one soldier and left some material damage.

The two explosions were heard around 2:00 pm local time (1100 GMT), a rare occurrence as the capital has been largely calm since the defeat of armed rebels in 2018, and occasional Israeli strikes usually took place after midnight.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the fresh Israeli attack targeted military sites mainly in the al-Dimas area in the western countryside of Damascus, where pro-Iran militias and Syrian military personnel were stationed.

Other military sites have also been targeted with no information on the losses, the war monitor added.

The attack is the 27th Israeli strike to hit Syrian sites since the beginning of 2022.

The last attack took place on Friday when the Israeli forces targeted what the Observatory said was a factory for manufacturing Iranian drones in al-Dimas.
