OTTAWA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed after a helicopter crashed near Montreal in Canada's Quebec province on Saturday, local media reported.
Police received a report of the crash at around 2:30 p.m. local time (1830 GMT) near Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville, a town about 55 km southeast of Montreal.
The aircraft caught fire upon impact, and emergency responders extinguished the blaze within an hour. All four people aboard were pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that the helicopter experienced an emergency shortly after takeoff before crashing.
Police have not yet determined the helicopter's ownership, its departure and destination points, or the identities of the victims, according to the report.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has dispatched a team to the site to investigate the crash. ■
