SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed after a small plane crashed into waters near the coastal town of Seldovia in the U.S. state of Alaska on Wednesday, the Alaska Department of Public Safety said.
Alaska State Troopers were notified of the crash at about 1:18 p.m. local time (2118 GMT), according to the department. The Piper PA-24 aircraft was flying from Anchorage to Seldovia when it crashed into the water and became fully submerged.
Troopers dispatched a helicopter crew from Anchorage and sent personnel by boat from Anchor Point to reach the crash site. After the tide receded, troopers recovered the bodies of four adults from the aircraft.
The bodies were transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies. The victims' names will be released after their next of kin have been notified.
The cause of the crash remains undetermined. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident. ■
