WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is expected to step down by the end of the year, after months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people familiar with the discussions.

This summer, Driscoll and his family moved out of the large family residence reserved for the Army secretary at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, a military post near Arlington National Cemetery where several top defense officials live, the report said.

In April, Hegseth asked Army Chief of Staff General Randy George to step down and take immediate retirement, with no explanation. U.S. President Donald Trump has not nominated a permanent replacement.
