OTTAWA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3 percent year over year in July, following a 2.8 percent gain in June, Statistics Canada said Monday.

On a year-over-year basis, higher prices for gasoline and travel tours in July contributed to the acceleration in the headline CPI, said the national statistical agency.

Moderating the faster price growth was a deceleration in the food purchased from stores index, added the agency.

The CPI rose 0.5 percent month over month in July. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.3 percent, said Statistics Canada.
