LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Mandatory evacuation orders remain in effect on Monday for part of Fillmore in the western U.S. state of Utah, as the fast-moving Widemouth 2 wildfire expanded to nearly 70,000 acres (about 283 square km), authorities said.
The lightning-caused wildfire, which was discovered on July 27, remained zero percent contained as of Monday, according to Utah Fire Info, the interagency public information resource for wildfires in the state.
Utah Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson said the Fillmore order covered an area east of Highway 99 between 500 South and 1600 South.
The Millard County Sheriff's Office said about 25 homes in Kanosh and Meadow were evacuated, along with residents of the Kanosh Band community and recreationists above Meadow and Fillmore.
The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah said it declared a state of emergency for the Kanosh Band Reservation on Sunday. Fire officials said the blaze crossed into Sevier County that afternoon, putting the Rockwood area above Joseph at risk.
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said more than 1,000 homes were under evacuation orders when Utah requested federal firefighting assistance, which FEMA authorized Sunday. ■
