WASHINGTON, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Pentagon on Tuesday confirmed the death of a U.S. soldier listed missing after Iran's Friday attack on a U.S. air base in Jordan, raising the number of U.S. troops killed in the strike to three.
The soldier was identified as 28-year-old Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad of Ozone Park, New York, and is believed to have been killed in Friday's action, the U.S. Defense Department said in a statement.
The Pentagon had earlier said the strike also claimed two other U.S. service members. Separately, another U.S. soldier was killed Sunday in northern Iraq during "a controlled detonation" of a downed Iranian one-way attack drone, the U.S. Central Command said.
According to the Pentagon, the number of U.S. military casualties from Iranian attacks has risen to nearly 100 over the last two weeks.
U.S. forces on Tuesday launched strikes on military targets in Iran for the 11th consecutive night, claiming that the attacks are designed to continue "degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz."
In retaliation for U.S. attacks on Iranian provinces in recent days, Iran launched waves of missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military bases and facilities in the region. ■
