NASSAU, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A small aircraft operated by Flamingo Air crashed on North Andros, west of the Bahamian capital of Nassau, on Friday, killing all 10 people on board.

At a press conference, Bahamian Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles said the aircraft was carrying nine passengers and one pilot. Rescue personnel found one person showing signs of life at the crash site, but the individual was later confirmed dead.

She added that police investigators had been dispatched to Andros Island and had begun their investigation into the accident.

In a statement, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority of the Bahamas said preliminary information showed that the aircraft had departed Lynden Pindling International Airport and was en route to San Andros Airport when it encountered difficulties before landing and crashed into bushes.

The Bahamas, located in the western Atlantic Ocean north of the Caribbean Sea, comprises more than 700 islands and over 2,400 cays. Small aircraft are a primary means of transportation between the islands.
