WASHINGTON, June 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that a U.S.-Iran deal is still expected to be signed hours later despite Israel's strike on Beirut earlier Sunday.
In a phone interview with Axios, Trump claimed the agreement had been scheduled for signing on Sunday morning but was delayed by Israel's attack on the Lebanese capital.
"It shook it up. It delayed the signing by a few hours. It was supposed to be now. Now it is scheduled for a few hours from now," Trump was quoted.
Trump said he was shocked and fumed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the latest Israeli strike in Beirut.
"It is so bad -- I couldn't believe it. An hour before we are supposed to sign the deal," Trump claimed.
Tehran has presented conflicting accounts of when an agreement will be signed, with Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps dismissing Trump's assertion that the deal was scheduled to be signed on Sunday, according to reports reaching here. ■
