TOKYO, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. servicemen stationed in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa were arrested by local police on Sunday on suspicion of assault and trespassing, respectively, following the arrests of two other U.S. service members in the previous day for alleged drunk driving, local media reported.

According to Kyodo News, one serviceman allegedly assaulted a man at a restaurant in the prefecture in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the victim with head injuries, while another allegedly entered an apartment building without a legitimate reason later that morning. Both suspects were arrested at the scene by local police.

Crimes involving U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan, including grave offenses such as murder, rape, and robbery, have long been a source of deep public concern.

Official statistics show that in 2025 alone, Okinawa police handled more than 100 criminal cases involving U.S. service members and related personnel.
