OTTAWA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Canada is pushing for Lebanon to be part of the ceasefire deal between the United States and Iran and for its inclusion to be honored by Israel, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation News reported on Thursday.

Canada is one of "many countries trying to push for Lebanon. It will all depend on whether (U.S. President) Trump will give a pass (to Israel)," the report quoted a senior source from the ruling Liberal Party as saying.

"What (Israel) is about to create in Lebanon is a civil war. They will be at war forever and will never gain peace," said the source.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has publicly repeated his call for a ceasefire to include Lebanon.

"The ceasefire needs to include Lebanon, that certainly had been the understanding and that needs to be the reality on the ground," Carney said on Thursday at a news conference in Quebec Province.

Carney said Canada will use its offices and its influence to support ceasefire efforts.
