MOSCOW, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran is a deliberate act of aggression and an escalation with predictably negative consequences for the entire region, a senior Russian lawmaker said on Saturday.
The attack requires an immediate meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma, was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency.
Earlier in the day, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said all U.S. negotiations with Iran were "a cover operation" in which no significant results were intended, and "the peacemaker has once again showed his face."
The United States and Israel on Saturday launched "major combat operations" against Iran after the recent U.S.-Iran nuclear talks in Geneva failed to yield a deal to avert the crisis. ■
