NEW YORK, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- U.S. existing-home sales posted a sharp decline in January, according to data issued by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) on Thursday.
The existing-home sales in the United States recorded a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.91 million units in January, down 8.4 percent from the previous month, the deepest decrease since February 2022.
The national sales of existing homes in January also fell 4.4 percent from the same period of 2025, according to data issued by the NAR.
"The decrease in sales is disappointing. The below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation this January make it harder than usual to assess the underlying driver of the decrease and determine if this month's numbers are an aberration," said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun.
Though affordability conditions are improving thanks to wage gains and lower mortgage rates, supply has not kept pace and remains quite low, according to Yun.
Sales price of U.S. existing homes increased by 0.9 percent year on year in January, according to the NAR. ■
