MEXICO CITY, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Mexican government on Sunday dispatched two navy vessels carrying more than 800 tons of food supplies as humanitarian assistance to Cuba, the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The statement said the ships departed from the eastern port of Veracruz and are expected to arrive in four days. One ship is transporting staples and personal hygiene products, and the other is loaded with powdered milk.
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday pledged that her government will send humanitarian aid, including food and other basic supplies, to Cuba.
Sheinbaum also said that efforts are being made "to resume oil shipments to Cuba," after Mexico halted crude and refined products shipments to the island in mid-January. ■
