MEXICO CITY, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday rejected any form of foreign intervention in Mexico following U.S. President Donald Trump's recent suggestions of sending U.S. troops to help fight drug trafficking.

During her daily morning press conference, Sheinbaum advocated for dialogue and bilateral cooperation, within a framework of shared responsibility and unwavering respect for national sovereignty, as the way to effectively combat drug trafficking.

According to Sheinbaum, Mexico maintains a firm, principled stance without closing the channels of communication with Washington.

"We prioritize dialogue above all else. We have our position, we have our principles, but we always seek dialogue with the United States government," she said.

She insisted that the appropriate way to work together is to strengthen diplomatic channels and move forward with agreements based on mutual respect and the principles of international cooperation.

Mexico assumes its responsibility in combating organized crime, but the United States must also do its part to curb arms trafficking, drug distribution and money laundering within its territory, Sheinbaum stressed.
