MEXICO CITY, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- A man fatally stabbed nine people, including children, in a town near Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, local media reported Sunday.
The attack began since Saturday evening in the town of Meerzorg, where the man stabbed his family members and neighbors, killing at least nine people, including his four children, according to media reports.
The man has been arrested by police, while his motive remains unknown.
Surinamese President Jennifer Simons expressed shock over the stabbing attack in a post on social media.
"At a time when family and friends should be holding on to and supporting each other, we are confronted with the harsh reality that there is another side to the world," she said on Facebook. "I wish all the bereaved much strength, courage, and comfort during this unimaginably difficult time." ■
