OTTAWA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday named Marc Miller as the new culture minister in a cabinet shuffle prompted by the resignation of Steven Guilbeault last week.

According to a news release from the prime minister's official website, Miller, member of parliament for Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Soeurs, will serve as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages.

In the shuffle, Joël Lightbound will take on the role of Quebec lieutenant, a position also formerly held by Guilbeault. Lightbound will continue to serve as Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement.

Furthermore, Julie Dabrusin's role has been expanded. She is now the Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, absorbing the "nature" portfolio from Guilbeault.

Guilbeault resigned from Carney's cabinet, strongly opposing an oil pipeline deal signed by the Canadian federal government and the oil-producing Canadian province of Alberta.
