WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- With the 2026 midterm elections a year away, a new Pew Research Center survey finds that Americans are largely dissatisfied with both major political parties, viewing them as too extreme and lacking honesty in governance.
According to the poll, conducted in late September among 3,445 U.S. adults, only 39 percent of respondents say the Republican Party governs ethically and honestly, while 42 percent say the same about the Democratic Party. Majorities describe both as too extreme, with 61 percent applying that label to Republicans and 57 percent to Democrats.
Public frustration is widespread: roughly half of those Americans say each party makes them angry, while just over one-third feel hopeful about the GOP. Only 28 percent say the Democratic Party gives them hope.
Dissatisfaction runs deepest among Democrats and left-leaning independents, who are frustrated not only with Republicans -- who control the White House and both chambers of Congress -- but also with their own party.
Sixty-seven percent of Democrats say they feel frustrated with their party, up sharply from about half in 2021 and 2019. Among them, 41 percent cite the party's failure to push back hard enough against the Trump administration as the main reason. ■
