WASHINGTON, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The White House on Wednesday unveiled an AI Action Plan that eases previous regulatory restrictions.

According to documents released by the White House, the administration plans to rescind regulations including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies and environmental measures addressing climate change -- signature initiatives of former U.S. President Joe Biden.

The White House documents also noted that federal agencies should not allocate AI-related funding to states with burdensome regulations that could waste resources.

NPR reported that while the Biden administration has focused on mitigating certain risks posed by AI, the Trump camp has consistently argued that deregulation is central to its technological vision.

According to The New York Times, the new measures are expected to open the door for companies to develop the technology "unfettered from oversight and safeguards."
