SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A landslide in Ketchikan, U.S. state of Alaska, killed one person and injured three others on Sunday, the Anchorage Daily News reported on Monday.
The landslide hit around 4:00 p.m. local time. A mandatory evacuation order was in place for homes in the area. Multiple homes were damaged by the landslide in downtown Ketchikan.
The Ketchikan City Hall was set to be closed on Monday, along with all schools in the city, officials said, adding that "a potential secondary landslide area has been identified south of the original slide location."
Over the past decade, landslides have killed 12 people in Southeast Alaska and caused tens of millions of U.S. dollars in damage, the report said.
Ketchikan Mayor Dave Kiffer said that multiple landslides in recent years across the region need further investigation. ■
