NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The 2024 U.S. Open Tennis Championships, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, kicked off on Monday with the start of Fan Week.
Thousands of tennis enthusiasts flocked to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Corona Park, Queens, New York City, to enjoy the festivities.
During Fan Week, attendees can watch qualifying matches and practice sessions, and participate in various events and family-friendly activities. A special Kids' Day will offer young fans chances to watch top players practice, enjoy musical performances, and meet players on a designated stage, along with interactive games.
On Monday, the Chinatown Young Lions Dance Group from New York City performed traditional lion and dragon dances to welcome fans. Tai chi demonstrations and traditional Chinese ribbon dances will also be featured throughout the week.
The main draw of the U.S. Open will begin on August 26, with the women's final set for September 7 and the men's final on September 8.
The singles champions will each take home 3.6 million U.S. dollars in prize money, while the doubles champions will share a prize of 750,000 dollars.
Paris Olympics women's singles gold medalist Zheng Qinwen will lead Chinese tennis players into the tournament. ■
