Boeing has encountered many quality and safety concerns for years with its aircraft, resulting in an extended grounding of certain planes and delivery suspensions. Here is a timeline of safety incidents involving Boeing aircraft in recent years.

BEIJING, March 18 (Xinhua) -- A Boeing 737-800 plane of United Airlines flying from San Francisco was found to have a missing panel after landing safely at its scheduled destination in southern Oregon, said the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Friday.

Boeing has encountered many quality and safety concerns for years with its aircraft, resulting in an extended grounding of certain planes and delivery suspensions.

Here is a timeline of safety incidents involving Boeing aircraft in recent years:

-- October 2018 and March 2019

A total of 346 people were killed in the crashes of Indonesia's Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines in October 2018 and March 2019 respectively, both of which were Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The 737 MAX was grounded for nearly two years in many countries and regions around the world.

-- Feb. 20, 2021

A United Airlines Boeing 777-200 suffered a unilateral engine failure shortly after takeoff, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing. Before landing, the malfunctioning engine exploded and caught fire, but fortunately no one was injured.

-- March 31, 2022

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 with 198 passengers bound for Washington D.C., took off from Salt Lake City. En route, the flight crew declared an emergency due to a broken windshield, and then the plane landed safely in Denver.

-- June 6, 2023

An Air India Boeing 777 flying from New Delhi to San Francisco suffered engine troubles and made an emergency landing at Magadan Airport in Russia.

-- Jan. 5, 2024

A door stopper of a built-in emergency door fell off the side of an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 shortly after takeoff. An inspection by investigators found that four bolts that were supposed to hold the door stopper in place were missing. The accident occurred only about two months after the plane was delivered to Alaska Airlines.

A Boeing 737 of Japan's All Nippon Airways was found to have a crack in the front glass of the cockpit during flight, and the plane immediately returned to New Chitose Airport in Sapporo.

A wheel in the landing gear of a Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 passenger plane suddenly fell off and rolled off the runway when the plane was taxiing and preparing to take off at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.

A United Airlines Boeing 757-200 flying from San Francisco to Boston was diverted to Denver International Airport due to wing damage.

A United Airlines Boeing 737 from Houston to Fort Myers was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff due to an engine fire.

-- March 7, 2024

A tire fell off the left main landing gear of a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 bound for Osaka, Japan, when it took off from San Francisco.

-- March 11, 2024

A Boeing 787-9 of Chile-based LATAM Airlines flying from Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand, experienced a "technical failure" in flight, causing violent shaking of the fuselage and many injuries.
