CHICAGO, March 15 (Xinhua) -- At least three people are dead as severe storms swept through U.S. state of Ohio Thursday night, spawning 20 tornado warnings across the state and leaving thousands in blackout.

The number of deaths could increase as rescue efforts continue, said Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds. Logan County was hit hard by a suspected tornado that struck a trailer park near Indian Lake about 70 miles northwest of the state capital Columbus, where the 3 deaths are reported.

Because of debris and downed power lines, there were areas where first responders could not search overnight, Dodds said.

Ohio Governor DeWine is expected to tour the tornado damaged area Friday afternoon, local media reported.
