U.S. dollar slips as traders assess banking sector stress

NEW YORK, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Monday as market participants assessed the recent stress in the financial system.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.26 percent to 102.8484.

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.0796 U.S. dollars from 1.0760 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2289 U.S. dollars from 1.2227 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 131.57 Japanese yen, higher than 130.76 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.9157 Swiss francs from 0.9197 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3650 Canadian dollars from 1.3741 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 10.3774 Swedish Kronor from 10.4269 Swedish Kronor.
