WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Eighty percent of Black or African Americans strongly or somewhat agree that systemic racism is responsible for disparities in areas such as health and finances, a recent poll by U.S. News & World Report and The Harris Poll showed.
By contrast, 62 percent of white Americans believe so, according to the survey with a sample of 4,085 U.S. adults and published on Wednesday.
The survey has revealed stark differences in opinions on racism among racial and ethnic groups. For example, 47 percent of white respondents remain unconvinced that systemic racism exists in America, while more than 80 percent of Black or African respondents believe it does.
"The stark disparity of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uprising in response to the murder of George Floyd undeniably exposed the racial inequities in the nation's economic, health care, and criminal justice systems and institutions, and ignited a clear demand for racial justice," said Marc Morial, president and CEO of the civil rights organization National Urban League. ■
