LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Paramount's horror film "Smile" came again as North American box office winner with an estimated three-day cume of 17.6 million U.S. dollars on its second weekend, according to studio figures released by measurement firm Comscore on Sunday.
The R-rated film has grossed 49.89 million dollars in North America, bringing its worldwide total to 89.89 million dollars to date.
The film follows a therapist who must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality after witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient.
Sony Pictures' live-action musical comedy "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile" opened in second place this weekend in North America raking in 11.5 million dollars.
Rounding out the top three, another newcomer, 20th Century Studio's original crime epic "Amsterdam" debuted with 6.5 million dollars during its opening weekend in North America. ■
