LOS ANGELES, July 19 (Xinhua) -- A crew member for U.S. crime drama television series "Law & Order: Organized Crime" was shot and killed on the set early Tuesday morning in New York, U.S. media reported.
The 31-year-old victim was fatally shot on the set of "Law & Order: Organized Crime" while working parking enforcement for the show in Brooklyn. He was sitting in a car in the 200 block of North Henry Street in the Greenpoint neighborhood when he was attacked around 5:15 a.m. local time, reported NBC News, citing police.
A suspect opened the car door and fired, striking the victim in the face and neck, the report added.
Production for the show was reportedly shut down for the day.
"Law & Order: Organized Crime" is a spinoff of the Law & Order franchise. The popular series stars Christopher Meloni as detective Elliot Stabler, who returns to the New York City Police Department to battle organized crime after a devastating personal loss.
Premiered on April 1, 2021, on NBC, the Universal Television-produced TV series is currently filming its third season.
"We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result," NBC and Universal Television said in a joint statement.
"We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time," the statement noted. ■
