LOS ANGELES, April 3 (Xinhua) -- American singer Jon Batiste won Album of the Year for "We Are" at the 64th Grammy Awards held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

The chart-topping album, released last year in support of the Black Lives Matter protests in the United States, beat out "Love For Sale" by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, "Justice" by Justin Bieber, "Planet Her" by Doja Cat, "Happier Than Ever" by Billie Eilish, "Montero" by Lil Nas X, "Back of my Mind" by H.E.R., "Sour" by Olivia Rodrigo, "Evermore" by Taylor Swift and "Donda" by Kanye West.

Batiste is the most-nominated artist during this year's Grammys, snagging nominations in 11 categories. He won five Grammys at the ceremony at last.

As the only peer-selected music award, the Grammy Awards are voted on by the Recording Academy's membership body of music makers, who represent all genres and creative disciplines, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers and engineers.
