WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Americans aged 15-24 are twice as likely to die than their peers in other wealthy countries, such as France, Germany and Japan, according to an American news outlet citing a study.
The U.S. infant mortality rate is up to three times higher than other countries, Fox 2 Detroit said, citing a study released last week by the U.S.-based Population Reference Bureau.
"The study's authors blame the troubling trend on 'violence, poverty and racial disparities,'" Fox 2 Detroit said.
The broadcaster described the research findings as "alarming."
Citing the report, the broadcaster said that "injuries, suicides and homicides are the leading causes of death among children and young adults while premature birth and congenital abnormalities are the top causes of infant mortality." ■
