LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- E-commerce giant Amazon announced Thursday that the company would open its first real-world clothing store in Los Angeles later this year, according to a media report.

CNBC reported Thursday that the first Amazon Style store will be located in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale. The store, covering roughly 30,000 square feet, will feature women's and men's apparel, shoes and accessories from a mix of well-known and emerging brands, with prices catering to a wide range of shoppers.

Shoppers can use their smartphones while shopping at the store, viewing additional colors and sizes and product ratings, and notifying store employees to put an item in their fitting room.

Amazon has spent years growing its share of apparel sales and has been expanding its territory of retails in the physical world, according to the report.

Last March, Wells Fargo said Amazon surpassed Walmart as the No. 1 apparel retailer in the United States, and estimated that Amazon's apparel and footwear sales in the country grew by approximately 15 percent in 2020 to more than 41 billion U.S. dollars, CNBC reported.

The company began tiptoeing into physical retail when it opened a bookstore in 2015 and then launched a number of traditional stores that feature the top-selling items on its official website.
