SARAJEVO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Border police in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) prevented the smuggling of 28 Turkish nationals near the border with Croatia, the BiH Border Police said Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the area of Posusje, a town in southwestern BiH near the Croatian border. Members of the Gorica Border Police Unit discovered the suspected smuggling operation while monitoring the state border and inspecting two passenger vehicles, both bearing BiH license plates and driven by BiH citizens.
Upon seeing the border police officers, the foreigners fled into a nearby forest. They were later found in difficult-to-access terrain. The group comprised 15 adults and 13 minors, all citizens of Türkiye.
The two drivers were questioned as suspects of human smuggling, while the 28 Turkish nationals were handed over to the BiH Service for Foreigners' Affairs for further processing, with a proposal for their expulsion from the country. ■
