BERLIN, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt has appointed Joti Chatzialexiou as its new sporting executive, with the 50-year-old set to leave second-division club Nuremberg and succeed Markus Krosche.

Chatzialexiou will assume responsibility at Frankfurt on February 1, 2027, after signing a contract running until June 30, 2030. He will continue his duties at Nuremberg until taking up his new position.

The Frankfurt-born official secured a release clause specifically allowing him to join Eintracht when he extended his Nuremberg contract in August. His previous agreement had been due to expire in 2028.

"With Joti Chatzialexiou, we are gaining someone who is an excellent fit for our club, both professionally and personally," Frankfurt president and supervisory board chairman Mathias Beck said. "He stands for great professional expertise, clear ideas and a consistent commitment to developing young players."

Chatzialexiou joined Nuremberg in 2024 after more than two decades in various positions with the German Football Association (DFB), most recently overseeing the national teams.

At Nuremberg, he appointed former Germany international Miroslav Klose as head coach and played a key role in squad development. The club currently sits third in Germany's second division.

Chatzialexiou previously coached several Frankfurt youth teams, establishing a connection with the club before beginning his long career at the DFB. ■
