LONDON, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The "Sunrise in the East" Brand Forum and the London stop of the Chinese Brands Global Journey were held at Mansion House in the City of London on Wednesday evening, focusing on the international development of Chinese brands.

The event drew more than 120 representatives from the political, business and cultural sectors of China and Britain.

Xi Yanchun, vice president of Xinhua News Agency, said in a video address that brands are very important for bridging cultures and fostering exchanges and cooperation, while overseas consumers are gaining a deeper understanding of China through their first-hand experiences with Chinese brands.

Xinhua stands ready to work with partners from all sectors to build consensus, deepen cooperation and help more Chinese brands set sail for international markets and thrive on the global stage, she noted.

David Haigh, chairman and CEO of brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance, said at the event that Chinese companies have successfully combined technological innovation with traditional manufacturing strengths, contributing to the growing global recognition of Chinese brands.

As the international community gains a deeper understanding of China, Chinese brands will enjoy greater international recognition and acceptance, he said.

Li Liyan, minister counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Britain, said that Chinese modernization provides a solid foundation for Chinese brands to go global, China's traditional culture gives Chinese brands a distinctive identity, and exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations help build understanding and enhance the international influence of Chinese brands.

Michael Mainelli, former Lord Mayor of the City of London, said that as Chinese businesses expand into international markets, Chinese brands are doing more than exporting quality products.

He said Chinese companies are increasingly seeking to understand local cultures, meet consumer expectations and build trust through consistent performance, further strengthening their competitiveness and influence in global markets.

The event was jointly organized by the London Bureau of Xinhua News Agency and Brand Finance.

During the event, participants discussed a range of topics, including China's soft power, the global influence of Chinese city and regional brands, and opportunities for Chinese brands expanding into international markets.

Brand Finance also unveiled its 2026 China City Index rankings. ■
