PARIS, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that the French Navy had intercepted an oil tanker more than 450 nautical miles south of Reunion Island earlier in the day.
In a post on social media X, Macron said the tanker was suspected of sailing under a false flag and being involved in illicit fuel transport activities.
He said the operation was conducted in accordance with international maritime law, adding that France was determined to combat the "shadow fleet" worldwide.
Reunion Island is a French overseas territory in the southwestern Indian Ocean. ■
