MOSCOW, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- No epidemic risks have been identified in Irkutsk following a case of pneumonia, Russia's Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said Wednesday.

The sanitary and epidemiological situation in the eastern Siberian city of Irkutsk and the nearby city of Shelekhov remains stable, the agency announced in a statement published on its website, adding that comprehensive preventive and anti-epidemic measures had been carried out.

As of Wednesday, medical observation has been completed for more than 90 percent of people who had been in contact with the patient. No health abnormalities associated with infectious diseases were detected, while nearly 5,000 laboratory tests found no dangerous pathogenic microorganisms, according to Rospotrebnadzor.

The agency said the measures were promptly implemented in full compliance with sanitary legislation after it received information about the case.

Two commissions tasked with checking compliance with biological safety requirements inspected the institute where the patient worked and found no accidents involving pathogenic microorganisms. The inspections also confirmed that proper controls were in place. ■
