OSLO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- A tanker and two cargo ships collided near Alesund in western Norway on Sunday, with no injuries reported, said rescue authorities.
The collision occurred in Valderhaugfjorden, in a narrow passage east of Valderoya before noon. One of the vessels took on water, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center for Southern Norway told Norwegian news agency NTB.
The three vessels, ranging from 80 to 147 meters in length, were all moving when the collision occurred, with two heading north and one south.
The Norwegian frigate Fridtjof Nansen, rescue boats, civilian vessels and a rescue helicopter responded after the center received a Mayday distress call through coastal radio.
All three ships were subsequently reported to be safely berthed or anchored near Alesund. Police were investigating the incident, and the cause remained unclear. ■
