BERLIN, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Czech coalition government led by Prime Minister Andrej Babis survived a parliamentary vote of no confidence on Thursday.

In the 200-seat Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, only 83 opposition lawmakers voted in favor of the motion to topple the cabinet, falling short of the required majority of at least 101 votes. A total of 94 coalition lawmakers voted against the motion.

The vote followed three days of heated debate. Opposition parties criticized the cabinet over a growing state budget deficit, national debt, and unfulfilled campaign promises.

This was the second failed attempt by the opposition to unseat the current coalition government formed by the ANO party, the Freedom and Direct Democracy party (SPD), and the Motorists for Themselves.

The coalition took office earlier this year. ■
