ZAGREB, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Croatia's inflation accelerated to 4.7 percent year-on-year in September, mainly driven by energy price hikes, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.9 percent, up from 0.3 percent in August. Energy prices were the main driver of inflation, rising 20.5 percent year-on-year amid supply disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

Prices of services increased 7.6 percent, while prices of food, beverages and tobacco edged up 0.2 percent.

According to Eurostat, Croatia's annual inflation stood at 4.3 percent in September, up from 3.7 percent in August. Meanwhile, inflation in the euro area as a whole accelerated to 3.8 percent in September from 3.2 percent in August.

Croatia's inflation has been among the highest in the euro area in recent years, but the gap has narrowed in the last few months. Finance Minister Tomislav Coric said earlier that the government expects inflation to match the euro area average in the first quarter of 2027. ■
