ANKARA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- A suspect in the 2013 deadly attack in the southern Turkish city of Reyhanli has been captured, Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization said on Thursday.

The exact time and location of the capture were not disclosed.

According to security sources, the suspect, Omer el-Hatip, was preparing to flee to Europe by boat at the time of his capture.

The sources said the suspect helped plan and organize the twin-car bombing in Reyhanli in May 2013, which killed 53 people, including 5 children.

The suspect was born in 1976 in Idlib province, northwestern Syria, and had previously served in the Syrian army, the sources added.

Türkiye has captured several perpetrators and planners involved in the Reyhanli attack. ■
