BELGRADE, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday that he would formally submit his resignation at around 8 p.m. (1800 GMT), during an interview with Radio Television of Serbia.
Vucic is expected to submit his resignation to the speaker of the National Assembly on Sunday, stepping down as president.
Vucic has said that, after stepping down as president, he would take part in the snap parliamentary election scheduled on Oct. 25 as an ordinary citizen.
On Sept. 5, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) nominated Vucic as head of its electoral list and its candidate for prime minister in the upcoming snap parliamentary election.
Vucic was elected president in April 2017 and re-elected in April 2022. Under Serbia's Constitution, the president serves a five-year term and may be re-elected once. ■
